Overview

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a volunteer civilian organization. Being an Auxiliarist will add to your boating experience, and allow you to share in saving lives and assisting the U.S. Coast Guard.

-----------------------

Who can join?

Membership is open to U.S. citizens who are 17 years or older. Individuals with related training or experience are encouraged to join us.

-----------------------

Why join?

As a Coast Guard Auxiliarist, you will increase your knowledge of boating safety thru special training. Instruction in navigation, meteorology, marine engines, communications, and search and rescue operations helps you participate in the Auxiliary while adding to your enjoyment of boating.

You will find satisfaction in providing an important service to boaters. The possibility of saving lives is always present for auxiliarists.

You will also find a special fellowship among auxiliarists. There's time to relax and have fun at Auxiliary outings, rendezvous, and cruises.

-----------------------

How do we help?

Safety patrols, search and rescue, and Coast Guard support missions are part of the Auxiliary's operations mission. As a member you will train to be a boat crew member, a coxswain, or a communications watchstander. Working with boats and radio stations, we provide operational support to the Coast Guard.

-----------------------

Vessel Safety Checks

The Vessel Safety Check program encourages boaters to carry proper safety equipment. You will be trained to become a Vessel Examiner so that you can give boaters boating safety equipment orientations while performing vessel exams.

-----------------------

Teaching the Public

The Auxiliary is known for its boating courses that teach safe boating principles, practices, and legal responsibilities. You may be trained to be an instructor for any course that we offer.
